    Problem with Para-Ordnance Warthog

Well, I have a Warthog that's maybe a year old. Have shot a couple hundred rounds through it. Almost every time it fires, (no matter who is shooting it) the magazine drops out. I am positive that the mag release is not getting depressed by a stray thumb/finger. Anyone have or know of any problems with these?
    Please let me knwo.

i can't speak for the warthog but i had a p1445 and was dropping mags only cause i kept hitting the release during recoil. weird stuff happens during recoil. i'd run a test by isolating the mag button or holding it in such a way so it absolutely will not get depressed during recoil. check your mag release and see if it's out of spec as well.

Is Springfield still using polymer in their triggers, mag release and MSH? I had an older P10, basically the "no makeup" version of the WH and switched out those plastic parts. Maybe replacing the part (with steel) and spring will correct the problem.

My mistake - should have typed "Para" not SP.

        Springfield makes Para Ordnance?

i own a warthog and i have never had that problem before!! sounds like you need to contact Para. the only problem i had before was FTE. i found out that using a 230 grain bullet tends to do that. i moved to 185gr and 200gr and the FTE problem went away for good. since then, never any problems with the warthog.

I did contact Para. They, like huangtow above suggested that I must be hitting the release. I assure you, I am not. I'm not a dummie... I did how-ever just notice that the slide was hitting the top of the magazine when it cycles. Did some clean-up work on it. We'll see (next time I shoot) if that fixes it.
Oh, and no Springfield does not make Para-Ordnance.

hey man i wasn't saying you were dumb or anything like that. i was just sharing that during my course of practicing with mine, i found that with the way my hands were placed a part of my hand would hit that button when firing.

just sharing my experience. i've had hurdles with mine that's for sure and if you want to talk mag issues haaha, i've had them going from tight spec or out of spec stock para tubes that wouldn't even take followers and factory ammo being too long to what you've found - mags sitting too high and hitting the slide. para mags, sti mags, arredondo parts, dawson parts etc. the weirdest thing was those little plastic recoil rod buffers. a buddy's kimber and mine shared the issue of the slide stop not dropping when charging the weapon when that thing was installed. it may sound like a different issue, but all the components in these things work together and sometimes one component has a big affect on others.

what dfletcher was talking about is the old sa v10. it used para's p10 frame. cool little pistol that thing was.

                Oops, WTH was I thinking?

Para puts those poly parts in their WH, P10.

No offence taken huangtow. I have been shooting 1911's for quite a while. With this problem, I have shot with my thumb in the air and with it held down by thumb #2. Everyone I have asked for advice has told me it must be my thumb. Argh....
Really just wish I didn't have to worry about catching the mag so I could focus on hitting the target.
                  Know what I mean?

Shoot it with your weak hand a few times just to rule it out. That is a fairly small pistol. I shot my friends Desert Eagle .50 once and my hand would hit the slide stop and lock the slide back every time I pulled the trigger from the recoil.

Good idea. I'll give that a try next time out.
                        thanx...

Sounds like the magazine catch is worn or has been relieved too much to hold the engagement hole in the magazine. Take a "dummy round" (no live ammo please), insert in the mag, then insert it into the pistol. Then pull, yank, and twist on the magazine and see if it ejects. If it does, the magazine catch is toast and needs to be replaced. Also, make sure the spring inside the magazine catch isn't damaged and the interior where the spring moves is free from debris.

                          My .02 cents.
