A little surface rust ok when using MolyResin?

I'm refinishing my Saiga and I'll use MolyResin:

Last week I stripped my Saiga and blasted it with 70 grit aluminum oxide - so far so good. Today I thought I'd prep it for paint and washed it with soap and water according to the instructions. However the rifle almost immediately formed a thin layer of surface rust, enough to take the color from a flat silver to a yellowish tinge. It's not very much, not enough to rub off with my T shirt for example. It's just in the pores created by the blasting.

Anyone else see something like this? Can I still apply the MolyResin or do I have to start all over again with the blasting? (I hope not...)

I guess you guys are right - it's less work to give it a quick blast now rather than when the finish if flaking off.

So be warned, other MolyResin users, take the instructions that come with the bottle with a grain of salt:

Glass bead airblasting polishes metal and may produce a surface poor for proper adhesion, therefore aluminum oxide in 60 to 90 grit is recommeded. Best cleaning methods appear to be soap and water; however, a chemical cleaning with MEK, acetone, etc. is also acceptable.

I use some stuff called K phos by gun kote. It's a kind of like a cold park job, works good too. I sprayed my NDS romy build after sanding it down. I lwt the spray dry and everything had a nice gray finish. Now this stuff isn't a final cote but as a base for a finish it's holding up well.

You should reblast it. I just sprayed my AR barrel with Molyresin last weak. Blasted, washed with soap and water, blew it dry with compressed air, preheated to 100 degrees, sprayed flat black, and baked at 300 degrees for 1hour. I always do it in 1 session so rust doesn't have time to start.

I think my mistake was to use a hair dryer to dry the parts after washing with soap & water. The hot air seemed to act like a catalyst and caused the rusting. Some of the parts I left alone and they did not rust.

I ended up blasting everything again. This time I blew them clean with compressed air and then wiped down with MEK prior to applying the Molyresin. All the parts turned out great!
