technique for non structural finish repair

I have an old M&P revolver that we are rebuilding as a shooter. It was in a leather holster for probably 50 years and has some deep pits on the left side of the frame. The cylinder and barrel were ruined and changed out too. Most of them went away with a new side plate. I am going to use some sort of parkerized finish when it is done but want to find some compound or technique to fill the pits. I have been curious about some sort of flame spray welding that would fill them and could be polished down. Does anyone have some ideas?
