    AB-10

If I mate an AB-10 upper to FAL lower and use Sten mag well, would I be making a zip gun, or woul I be legit? Thanks.

for one thing you would be creating a SBR, but other than that you're good, its all parts designed to be a firearm, so thusly the CA zipgun law wouldn't apply.

The way the law is written pretty much parts cant be just general hardware tubing and such, it needs to be parts originally designed to be used as firearm parts.

Why would it be a SBR?

A Fal lower is just a FCG housing. There are no #'s. An AB10 upper is not #'d. The magwell is just a magwell. Your building a Frankenstien gun from parts. Seems to me to be a home brew. Just need to remember SB23.

ETA: I am assuming you are build it as a pistol. So no butt stock.

An AB-10 upper, similar to a Tec-9? If so, it would be an SBR if it was still had a pistol length barrel with a shoulder-stocked lower.

A frankengun with no "registered" receiver section might run afoul of the zip gun laws if it not a copy of a firearm designed by a licensed manufacturer.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

          pistol

I know the SBR rules, but I was thinking about pistol built. 10/30 sten mag/with mag lock, back of the lower modified to not allow stock attachment.

This what I assumed you would be doing. I don't think you would be running afoul of the zip gun law. I would probably name it and serialize it just for saftey sake. Sounds like a cool project.

Instead of using a FAL lower (because of the stock thing), would a HK/Cetme lower work? No buttstock junk on it.

The FAL lower would make a better platform, but then again if you have enough machines to modify a FAL lower to work, you should be able to machine a simple U slot shaped housing with pushpins to adapt to the upper, and then make it use a standard AR style grip, it would be a very simple part to machine.

                ab-10

The thing is that I've got an AB-10 kit for cheap ($50), all the parts less stripped receiver. I also have FAL lower with all internals from the time i was into FALs. I was organizing my parts storage containers the other day and I put those two together and it looks like I can make it work. My only concern was to stay within the law. Too bad I can't use those pre-ban 30 round Sten magazines. I think I need Olympic 9mm upper for my RAW Bushmaster to use those mags.

$50 that's cheap! You could get your money back and some if you sold the kit then build something easier like a mpa.

When I read this, I thought of this guys home build. I think it can be done the same way if you're creative and have metal skills.
