New AR, charging handle feels a bit stiff

I just put together a new AR with a GG&G Dominator Upper, DTS/Denny's AR15 BCG and LMT Tactical CH.

Assembled on a CMMG lower with RRA stock kit/buffer kit

Operating the CH feels a bit stiff, I oiled it and it's helped a little but overall still feels a bit stiff, cycling has helped a little so I'm wondering if it just needs to be broken in at the range? After cycling several times it feels like I'm building up friction between the CH and the top of the interior of the upper.

It cycles snap caps, although really tight action with the buffer spring in place.

Is this normal with a new AR?

    1) is it stiff without the BCG?

    2) if it is not, then your BCG need some lubrication

yeah the CH still feels like it wants to "stick" without the BCG in. In feels like the problem lies with the CH and not the BCG, it's a little hard to describe, feels like it sticks a little is closest I can think. Feels like friction occurring there's a smell almost like fired gunpowder oddly enough. All new parts so it hasn't been shot yet.

Here's a close up of the top of the CH, it almost looks like there is some sort of coating? Maybe something put on to protect it from the factory that needs to be cleaned off first?

I have a whole bunch of LMT Tactical CH, all of them runs flawlessly right off the bat.

Maybe it is just a tight tolerance upper. It would be good if you have another CH to compare with.

PS. if you want to get rid of your LMT Tactical CH, I will buy it off you....

PPS. that is my current favourite!

PPPS. you can try to put a light coat of oil all over the CH, but I still think it is just a tight upper receiver channel.

it's got a little bit of play in the channel, the more I mess with it the better it feels except the friction seems to make the oil cook a little if I cycle a bunch so that's why I'm getting that smell but yeah, it feels like the edges on both the bottom of the CH and the receiver channel are fairly sharp and I think that's where I'm getting that sticking feeling. I will lube some more, using M-Pro 7 gun oil.

That smell is normal. Should go away once your AR is fully broken-in...
Also AR's runs better lubbed. I spray my BCG and coat the CH before I shoot it.

                Yes.

                Break that virgin in!

The friction will lessen the more you shoot it.

Show it a picture of Rosie O'Donnell. That will soften it up.

It's like Madonna. Not the virgin one but the "new" Madonna. She gets more flexible with age. Best advice, lube her up and take her out to dance...a lot. Shoot the s--t out of her and bring her home for the night.

Does that smell smell like farts? I keep smelling that during cycling as well.

Hmm, I wouldn't say farts exactly, at least not the kind of farts I'm used too.
