    NEED AK HELP

I need someone to help me with my AK build. I need tools to get the rivets done and I need someone who knows how to duracoat or Parkerize well.

Let me know. Im a college student, money is tight but I can pay the right person for help/Trade ammo/Range time

    Thanks

How far along are you at this point? Have you removed all the old rivets?

One cheap way to accomplish this is modified bolt cutters. They are essentially bolt cutters with a semi circular divet in one side. These can be used to crush the rivets in the front trunion and a ball peen hammer can be used for the ones in the back. As far as parkerizing maybe you can wait for a build party in your area.

Just build with screws for now and when a build party comes up go to it and put rivets in.

As for painting, use Duplicolor Engine Paint w/ Ceramic, on the receiver before assembly and bake it in the oven for about an hour.

This will get you bye until better means come up.

                I am down in Socal.

I have the option of doing a screw or a rivet build. I bought both parts.
I have a prebent receiver, all ready to go all I need to do is drill the holes out and heat treat it.

I saw the bolt cutting tool, only thing is I dont have a grinder to make it.

Im buying a rivet jig that looks like this

Will this work for the trunnion rivets as well as the trigger rivets?

I basically need someone with a press and/or knows how to finish the metal on a AK

When you say pre-bent do you mean an NDS-3? If so, you do not need to heat treat it, it is already heat treated. If it is a tapco or AK builder flat, then you will need to heat treat the lower rail ejector tip and FCG holes and getting that exactly right is a little tricky.

What you have pictured is the long rivet jig, it will handle the rivets for the rear trunion too. I think I recall people using it for the front trunion as well.

Your best bet may be to wait for a build party where parkerizing equipment/press/ trigger gaurd rivet jig will be available.

Thanks for the info. Its pre-bent but not heat treated and are the holes are not drilled.

How do the screw builds hold up with red lock tite?

                      sspen,
if this is your first build then go with a NDS. I can give you a helping hand. If you are building your own receiver then you need access to a lot of jigs and should wait for a Build party.

sorry but what is an NDS?

So far I have removed all the old varnish from the romy, re-shaped the lower fore-grip, and degreased all parts except the barrel, front trunnion and sight block.
