    ar 15 buffer

I'm looking for a little help.....i recently purchased a .50 Beowulf 16" upper and am going to put it on an existing lower that i have set up for 5.56. I've been reading on how the dedicated .50 and .458 rifles have heavier buffers and stiffer buffer springs. ok finally to the question. opinions on replacing my standard car buffer with a heavier h2 or h3 buffer do you think it will function properly with both the 5.56 and a .50 Beowulf uppers? cycle properly? and if so go with the h2 or h3?

you'll never know until you try. 5.56 is stouter than .223 so it may just cycle 5.56 and not .223. However your 50 beowulf upper will be smashing the buffer tube really hard if your running standard buffers and springs.

It takes less than 20 seconds to change out the spring and buffer. I think you should fire the upper in all variations and see which ones you like.

Why would you assume the 50beo will smash the buffer?

Given the proprietary nature of these uppers, the timing and relatively low velocity of the 50beo, I would expect mfgrs should be able to keep things reasonable with pressure.

I would suggest asking what your mfgr designed the upper to work with. There isn't necessarily a single answer to this. Additionally, some self-testing is in order - especially if you reload on the edge of the max for 50beo.
