    1911 conversion questions

    Hi fellow Calguns members,

I'm wondering if a 1911 in 10mm can it be converted to 9mm with just a drop in barrel and bushing similar to converting 1911 in 38 super to 9mm?

    and

If I have a Colt Commander frame, would it work with 5" (Government) or longer complete aftermarket upper assemblies?

    Many thanks.

Its not ideal but can work. I have one with a 40 slide and 9mm barrel that runs great.

If you use a commander frame with a gov slide the gun will function however there will be a gap at the front of the dust cover between the dust cover and slides spring tunnel.
    where are my pistol mags?

If you have a Colt Commander in 10mm, don't mess with it. I've never even heard of one. I looked on Gunbroker for a Colt Commander in 10mm and didn't find any listings. It's probably worth a ton of money.

I have a Caspian slide in 10mm/.40 cal with a Colt 10mm barrel I bought a while back as a project. The person I bought it from said he got it to run with a .38 Super ejector but had to fiddle with the length of the ejector.

I've heard that the Springfield .38 Super slide will work with a 10mm/.40 barrel so I picked one up. Unfortunately, the Springfield frame is cut for the Wilson/Nowlin ramp and my 10mm barrel isn't ramped, so the project is on hold until I get another frame or another barrel. I was thinking of a .40.

Playing with 1911's is fun, but you need lots of money and lots of time.
