    Barrel finish repair

This is what I found when I removed a barrel clamp from a Benelli M2 barrel.

Any idea how to repair this using some over the counter product or do I need to send the barrel to be refinished?

(I know this doesn't affect the functioning of the gun but it just irritates me when I look at it).

All advice (but not criticism) gratefully received.

Put the clamp back on to cover up the scratches. or just live with it.
Otherwise, its a full refinish of the whole barrel.
    Those are your realistic options.

I believe Birchwood Casey (and probably some others) still make those gun blue marker pens in one or two shades of blue/black.

That might be the quickest easiest solution, although they probably also sell kits to reblue the whole thing yourself, which might not turn out perfect on your first attempt. A long time ago I had good results with a Birchwood Casey blueing kit for a build it yourself black powder item and it turned out nicely but it was a bit messy and some work.

And those gun blueing marker pens might not match what you have on there and I don't know how permanent it's going to be considering the original factory blue was removed by the clamp.

If it bugs you I think I would go with the bluing pen and see if it matches enough for you. If you don't like it put the clamps back on and I'm sure they will remove it it in the same way they took off the factory blueing

Those marking pins wont save that.

        Put the clamps back on.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

Just wick some CLP between the clamp and the barrel after cleaning and forget about it. It's what I do with my AR15 for the barrel and gas block.

Since it is a Benelli the finish is probably black oxide. I am not aware of any DIY product that will match it. Commercially black oxide is an inexpensive process. Besides, it?ll just wear off again.

No matter what you do the finish will always wear under the clamp. So just oil it and put the clamp back on.
