10/22 trigger upgrade - hammer only

I see kits to replace only the Hammer on a 10/22 or the hammer and sear.

I have an old 10/22 with a kid proof trigger - 12+ pound pull and its time to clean it up....

Is there any concern going with just the voltzquartzen Hammer and springs or what should I be looking at....

I don't want to spend as much as the gun on just a trigger....

You can get a BX trigger for not too much more than that VQ kit Similar results, with out any guessing if it would work or not

I have installed several Power Custom hammer-only in my 10/22s.
It's a huge improvement, inexpensive, quick and easy.
I looked a few months ago and didn't see any for sale but my Google-fu is not strong.

The hammer and springs makes a big difference.
Don't forget to also polish the hammer strut on both the round end that slips into the hammer and on the edges where the coil spring rides.
You can also add an over-travel setscrew to the factory trigger by simply drilling/tapping it while you have it apart.

I installed a VQ hammer kit on one of my TC/R 22 triggers, polished the strut, installed the springs. It went from 6 lbs or so to 2.5 lbs. Well worth the money, with just a bit of work.

Curious as to why these things should be polished? Would have no impact on trigger pull as far as I can tell, unless pulling the trigger cocks the hammer farther back a little bit as the sear and hammer move past each other during the pull?

Start with just the Volquartsen drop in hammer. It is night and day from stock, but I can?t really tell the difference between a stock trigger group with the drop in hammer and the Volquartsen 2000 complete trigger group. IMO Best $ spent on any upgrade for a 10/22.

Years ago when I owned a 10/22 I fixed the trigger by just replacing the factory hammer with the Volquartzen drop-in hammer.....no spring change. It resulted in a 3 lb trigger break.

Like ojisan I usually just replace with a Powers hammer and that's more than enough to give a very good trigger pull. I'm pretty sure you'll get great results with the Volquartzen hammer and spring.

                            Here are my experiences.
IMO... If you feel comfortable doing it? I had the best results doing my own.

                            Ruger BX drop in $85.
Pro's- easy drop in, trigger pull 3.5 lbs. Cons- still gritty, stiff, no overtravel, stock reset. Spend the extra $32 and get the Volquartsen HP Action Kit or do your own.

                            Volquartsen HP Action Kit $117.
Pro's- easy to install, trigger pull 2.5 lbs, flat faced trigger shoe, overtravel, super smooth, fast reset. Cons- none maybe price but your paying for quality parts. I own one and love it.

                            For my 3rd 10/22 I rebuilt it myself $20 I did install a automatic bolt release too $12. So, basically $ 35
Pro's- Easy to do, saved a bunch of money, trigger pull 1.8 lbs, overtravel, super smooth, extremely fast reset. Cons- none.

                            I polished the OEM parts {being careful to NOT grind off lips on the contact points}, changed the trigger shoe {OEM with overtravel screw}, installed KIDD weight tuning spring {1 /34 lb weight}
Cheap enough with stellar results! I was truly amazed! The the pull weight, smoothness, overtravel / reset, is amazing...

                            Other worth while upgrades

I have one of these also, that are a lot cheaper that work great too
                            https://www.ebay.com/itm/15564955087...TV311PVVDK6&ha sh=item243d6faa18:g:qk4AAOSwB7FeE5ve

I've also used paint stripper and removed all overspray {paint} from inside the receivers, polished and I also polished the bolts.

When I get around to it I'll be ditching the BX and doing my own again using one of the leftover tuning springs.

                            Hope this helps?

pulling the trigger cocks the hammer some before the hammer falls.
                              most hammer-fired guns do this.
                              any hammer that cocks partially
during trigger pull will benefit from these same treatments.
