    Welding need on a slide

    Ok cliff note version.
I had some custom flutes cut on top of a 1911 colt rail gun from a local “gun smith” .Well needless to say the flute did not come out as expected, and now Im stuck. I feel like the only way to fix this is to re weld the slide and re cut the flutes.

So I guess my question is.. is does anyone know a gun smith that is capable of doing this?

Thank you in advance for any replies

Go by a new slide. After you pay someone to weld it and control movement and restore it back to original shape and refinish it. You are going to be into it for more time than a new slide would cost.

You don't weld on slides or barrels as you effect the heat treat and possibly make the part unsafe.

            Replace the slide.
If you need help fitting the new slide with your old parts, I can help.

Depending on the amount of weld needed to fix the issue. Slides can be welded but you must be aware of the areas that do not appreciate a heat affected zone. i.e. stay away from the breach face.

But there again we are back to it's more money to do it right than it is to buy a slide.
