    BarSto semi-fit glock bbl

Considering getting a BarSto Semi-Fit barrel for my Glock 17.

I think this is within my skill set, but anyone have any advice or experience on this front?

Note: I am NOT talking about the Match Target offering, which I know is NOT something I should attempt.

If you can field strip your pistol(and you should know), you can swap the barrel out. Since it?s a 9mm, I assume you are not doing a caliber conversion, which may involve recoil spring swap.

It's not a simple swap, it's a semi fitted barrel.

Not the same as far as I know.

Correct, the semi-fit MAY just drop in, but it MAY also require careful filing/stoning in 2 areas. This article covers the basics (even though the title refers to "Match Target" some of the detail content appears to really relate to the Semi-Fit), but always looking for additional insight.

LOL I'd honestly be disappointed if that happened.

I would go full gunsmith fit.
It seems like a waste of money to buy a semi-drop-in barrel since those almost all just drop-in.
If you are spending top dollar, go all the way and do it right with a full gunsmith fitting job to really make the top quality barrel shine.

Those are apex fitting instructions for their barrel to n an M&P but those are not how Barsto says to fit one of their barrels.
Fitting on the back of the hood affects headspace.
Barsto says to fit on the front of the hood.

Yeah... scratching my head over how you file/stone just that vertical face on the front without goobering up the horizontal area underneath it.

To add to this thread, after you’ve fitted the barrel in all the appropriate places, the chamber may need to to be reamed. The “gunsmith” fit barrels are usually short chambered.

There are specialty files that are flat on one side and toothed on others.

Maybe to rough it, but that's what a surface grinder is for. I sure wouldn't go near locking surface with a milling machine.

Barsto milled all the locking surfaces including the ones they telll you not to cut to begin with so they must think it?s ok.

I agree that a surface grinder is better but sometimes the solution is to mill it until it will fit tight and then stone it to finish fit.
