    S&W Model 29 question

First off I don't shoot a lot revolvers, I have a Model 29 and during the last trip to the range I was hit in the face with some shrapnel while shooting. I thought maybe I got a bad load or there was a problem with the ammo so I switched to a factory load and got the same results. I was wondering if anyone knew what causes this and how to fix it or could point me in the direction of a good revolver gunsmith. Thanks in advance.

Spitting is usually the result of timing issues and/or too large cylinder gap. Used to be S&W had repair stations around the country but the only solution these days is to find a reliable gunsmith (iffy), or send it back to S&W for repair. You don't mention where you live so we can give some suggestions as to a good gunsmith in your area.

Sounds like timeing is off. Time to have a smith fit a new hand, set the cylinder gap and possibly recut the forcing cone.

        OP.....

Is it a newer model 29 dash? Does it has the IL?

If it's a newer gun, IIRC it has a lifetime warranty. Call customer service at SW and ask. You might save yourself allot of money.

Like 'ol shooter said, "Spitting is usually the result of timing issues and/or too large cylinder gap."

        Good Luck.

I work on Smith and Wesson revolvers . As stated previously...a timing problem or cylinder gap.
If a new firearm, call SW to see if you are covered.

Maybe the forcing cone also. I had this happen with a Model 57. The bullet was peeling off at the barrel and spitting back at me. Way dangerous
