Ruger MKIII

I am experiencing a consistant FTF issue with my Ruger MKIII. It happens with both magazines and when both have 7 - 8 rounds in the magazine.

Typically the nose of the round will snag on the feed ramp. When I extract the round there is always a crescent shaped dent in the nose of the round.

Since it is both magazines I am inclined to believe it is an issue with the firearm itself and not the magazines.

Has anyone else experienced this particular problem with the MKIII before? If so what was the cause?

There have been FTF issues, but many of them are attributed to ammo... What are you using and have you tried other brands/types?

Thanks for the input. So far all I have pushed through it is CCI. I have two 500/rnd boxes of Winchester, I will have to give that shot and see if I have the same issue.

With regard to the link you sent, thanks. I will take a look tonight after work and see if the mag release button has any issues as mentioned in the guntalk forum.

I went thru the same on my 22/45 MKIII. Now it has tremendously smoothed out. I have 10,000 rounds thru.
I did all that stuff; someone told me to use round nose, I did. Someone (the guys at ruger) told me to use CCI, I did. Someone said use 40gr, I did.
Someone said tap the back of the mag to seat them, I do.
And I was told to round off the lips of the mag, it works.
And at the gun store someone said to smooth the ramp a bit. I did, be careful. Also commiserate with others at www.rimfirecentral.com

I had the same issue with a 22/45 when shooting hollow points. Have shot over a thousand rounds of round nose with no feeding problems. In fact, has helped alot with the other autoloading .22's I shoot.

PS: I also cleaned and lubed my magazines.

I have a stainless steel 6 7/8" barrel MkIII hunter and I've used only the round nose copper plated 40g CCI mini mags. So far I've put about 750 rounds thru it and I've had no problems. Maybe I've been lucky.
