AR trigger pull weight

? about what is the expected trigger pull on an AR with the standard trigger, I installed one from riflegear.com (standard lower parts kit) and the trigger pull seems far heavier than I recall, but it has been ~18 yrs since I last used and AR so I don't recall it exactly.

Unless I didn't install it correctly, it feels like 9-12 pound range (guesstimate), and this is even after polishing the trigger and sear mating surfaces ;-(

The last three RRA lower parts kits I've installed all had a pull of 7lbs. You can google the 15 minute AR15 trigger job and with a quick bend of the trigger spring and clip of the hammer spring you can be down to 5lbs. The RRA two stage match trigger reduces creep and overtravel but still brakes at 4.5-5lbs.

I am going to pick up a few extra springs and try that trigger job, I am curious to know how good it is.

I have done the 15 minute trigger job on one of mine and it made a huge difference. Not as nice as a RRA NM but better than stock.

4.5 lbs is the minimum weight allowed in NRA Service Rifle (hence, that's why the RRA match trigger is set at that weight). There are aftermarket "match" triggers that will go lower (there is a difference between "service" and "match" rifle in highpower).

I have a Timney 3 lbs trigger in one of mine. Great triggers, but it is a little sensitive. I probably won't change it, but my future build will have the Timney 4 1/2 lbs trigger. Highly recommend them, if you can find them and if you don't mind dropping a little $

Thanks for the replies, I decided to purchase a JP Enterprises Competition trigger, I found mention that the 15min trigger job failed for once person, plus modding springs can be problematic, so I decided not to go that route.

guys! please be carefull about these 15 min trigger jobs. not to say they cant give you a lighter, crisper "feeling" trigger pull. they can be unsafe and unreliable. if these are target or sporting guns go for it.

If these are defensive rifles. PLEASE! PLEASE! do not use these methods. PM me for a safer more reliable method.

This can cause FTF due to light hammer strikes... ask me how I know. You can always just put one leg of the hammer spring above the trigger axis pin and one below, then bend the lower leg as you like. Cutting is permanent, so try the other method first. Unless you have a spare spring.

THIS IS INCORRECT INFORMATION. IF YOU PUT ONE LEG OF THE SPRING UP AND ONE LEG DOWN, EVENTUALLY YOU WILL BE REPLACING YOUR LOWER RECEIVER! I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE. THE HAMMER PIN HOLES WILL START TO OBLONG.
