Rem 700 Scope Mount holes off

This is a factory Rem 700 30-06, probably 20-30 years old.
So Installing a scope mount, but looks like the holes are bit off.
Tried a couple different mounts, same results.
I can get all 4 screws in, but don't want to put a bind on the receiver.
I'm thinking opening up the mount holes a touch?.
    Ideas?

Yup, just slot the hole a touch. Depending on the clearance on the counterbore hole, you may also need to slot that. That will take mill. Reducing the diameter of screw head may be an option as well.

      Thanks,
      That's what I was thinking.

Have you tried a two piece base? I have a set of Leupold dual dovetail bases and rings you can have if they work.

Another fix is to go to 8-40 screws and an 8-40 base.
Using an endmill in a rigid milling machine setup, you can slightly move the hole centers as you open them up and re-tap to 8-40.

Opened up the holes just a tad and all is well.
