How deep can you engrave a Python barrel?

A friend of ours bought her Husband an engraved one for Christmas but its relief engraved down to at least .035 thou.

The shop she bought it from called her to say don't shoot it he heard it was to deep from a friend of his. He is willing to replace it, he has another Python to engrave.

Anyway here's a couple of photo's. If the barrel is indeed to deep, I imagine that it could be sent to Colt to rebarrel it.

0.035" engraving depth is fine.
The threads and the forcing cone area are WAY thinner at the breech end of the barrel and the guns survive just fine.

I'm not sure i should admit to this but i kind of like the look of the second photo....maybe because once upon a time when my hands were good i fancied learning how to engrave.

The second pic sure hides all the roughness that shows up in the first pic... Might be a trick of the light though (either the first or second.)

It is safe to shoot.
It's one of the new ones, so no great loss.

Lasered scroll engraving is ugly as hell when it's done that deep.
None of the nice graver markings of real hand engraving.

It was a gift. Be Gracious and accept it as such and let the giver know it's very appreciated - display it take it out of the safe once in a while and admire it in some obvious way. Why rebarrel it? The friend was trying to be thoughtful and supportive of her husband's interests and he should just recognize that - he's a lucky man.

Rebarreling that gun would be like getting a car and then having it repainted, think about the giver - don't be the Neanderthal in the room.

When asked why it doesn't get used, the answer is simple, it's now an heirloom gun.

Besides, cleaning it could be quite a chore.

The alternative could have been a set of underwear with a Brownells logo right?
