    Shotgun Maintenance

    Hello all,

Several year back when my grandfather passed I inherited this cool old single shot 12 ga.
It has been in the safe, but now I want to pull it apart and restore it to its potential.
I can not remember what it is, I looked it up a few years back and its nothing really special. I can not find out how to disassemble the barrel from the stock. Can anyone tell me how to remove the pin that is held by a spring?

I would love to be able to shot this after I blue it and re finish the stock, but is there a safe way to know if I can still shoot it?

I have attached a few photos below. especially of the area that I think keeps the barrel attached to the stock.

looks very similar to a system used many years ago whereby a lever would raise and rotate to cock or open the shotgun.... that has unfortunately since broken..at least that's what i think we're looking at..

It appears to be similar to that seen on a Remington 1893 model 9 or the old Rawbone shotguns. Stevens made rifles and shotguns with a somewhat similar looking side lever design as well.

I wonder if you couldn't saturate the area with some Kroil or penetrating oil/solvent, leave it over night and then see if you can gently rotate what's left of the knob?

wish i could tell you more

Thanks so much! This at least gives me a lead on how I can get the barrel off and refurbished! I appreciate it!
