    Colt Woodsman

I was shooting my 1958 Woodsman this morning, and when I dropped a mag, I saw the recoil spring retaining latch laying on the bench.
This is the part that is pushed down by a button on top of the slide to capture the recoil spring.
This is also the part that captures the recoil spring, so that the pistol can be dissembled.
So, any ideas on how to break this pistol down now???

I am a long-time owner of a Colt Woodsman. They are a bear to disassemble and assemble. In your case, I think all you may need to do is remove the Mainspring Housing, which will enable you to remove the slide. Since the Recoil Spring and Guide are not secure, they may want to launch out of the slide while removing the slide. If this happens look for them in the most unusual place, that is where I usually find parts. Once you remove the slide replace the Assembly Lock. Here is a good website on the Colt Woodsman, https://www.bobrayburn.com/colt22/index.html

          I got it fixed.
I removed the main spring housing and the slide came right off, as the main spring housing also functions as a slide stop.
The recoil spring latch needed a little tweaking, but I got it all together and it seems to function correctly.

Glad it all worked out for you. What Colt Woodsman version do you have?
