    Mini 14 & AR15 mags

I have a couple of both rifles and lots of mags but want to use just one style. Was wondering if anyone has attempted to modify mini14 mags for use in an AR15. I was going to try to modify one myself to see the results, but wanted to post first to save some frustration in case it didnt work. Also, do I need a license or permit to make magazine bodies? ( I own a metal fabrication shop)

    For resale.....I doubt it.

    For yourself....
    Not likely.

I have an old plastic magazine that was designed with both AR and Mini14 type magazine catch cutouts. It's a real POS and spits a brass shower if you wave it up and down but it works in both weapons.
      .

Okay, I dug it out of the pile. It's marked Ramline MAC1530 pat. no 4,586,281 for Mini-14, M-16, AR-15, AR-180.

Good idea, poor execution. So you know it can be done. Let me know if you want to look at it.

There's some guy on one of the Colorado gun forums trying to get $15 for his. Gouger!!!

my ramline mini / ar mags works full but jams when you get down to 1 or 2 rounds left in the mag , the follower catches and slides out of the body and gets balled up in the upper

i have amini but no AR

i compared a few AR mags i had aquired to my mini 14 mags. i took some rough measurements and found that the AR mags could rather easily be modified to work in the mini-14. now i cant say that they would work in a mini-30 though. and also, i worked in a sheet metal shop for a little bit doing fabrication so i might have an edge on average joe.

if you have both and look at them you will see that the AR mag has an extra bump on the back. if you have a large enough (10 round MINIMUM) mag then it should be structurally sound enough to simply take a cut-off wheel and knock off that extra bump on the back. the hard part would be leaving a tab for the mini's mag catch to catch.

dont have the AR mags anymore or i would take some pictures

This has been tried many times over the years. It's the Holy Grail of Mini 14 mag projects. There should be a good bit of discussion in the archives at http://perfectunion.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=105.

Nobody's ever been successful, as far as I know.

I am pretty sure a few months ago I told people I read a story from ar15 site and they said they tested some ramlines and they worked good. I have both as well and have thought about doing this many times.... Great idea AGAIN!!!
