SKS recoil buffer installation question

Has anyone used a Buffertech SKS recoil buffer?

I installed a recoil buffer but it had to be deformed to fit into the top cover:



As a result the indent is no longer round and the recoil spring won't fit into it. I also noticed the pic on their web site show the SKS receiver cover has a slot on top, but mine doesn't. Are there different types of receiver covers?

No, that's just a cut-off so you can see how it looks when installed.
My honest opinion? Snake oil for gun newbs. SKSes are pretty close to the definition of firearm indestructibility. That 5 penny worth of rubber you paid $5 for doesn't protect anything from anything.
