How do I know what thread pitch I need?

How do I know what thread pitch I need?

The muzzle diameter drives the thread spec.

If the barrel is 0.900" or larger, go with 3/4-24 threads.
If the barrel is between 0.700" and 0.900" and the caliber is 0.45 or smaller, go with 5/8-24 threads.
If the barrel is between 0.625" and 0.700" and the caliber is 0.35 or less, go with 9/16-24 threads.
If the barrel is between 0.625" and 0.575" and 30 caliber or under, go with 1/2-28 threads.
If the barrel is under 0.575", we really need to look closely at the caliber to determine what the safest thread size is.

Order the brake tapered to the same diameter as the barrel at the muzzle, NOT 1/2" behind the muzzle.
By ordering the brake slightly smaller, I can trim the back of the brake until it matches the barrel shoulder diameter where the brake tightens against the barrel shoulder.
