Help me build a AR tool kit!

Alright guys, I'm very VERY new in terms of firearms and I am still learning. I know there are a lot of expensive tool and cleaning kits out there, but I'm sure I can build one myself much cheaper.

As of right now, I have no tools in my "Ar-15 toolbox". Can we start a AR-15 tool box / cleaning kit / AR-15 first aid kit list for the noobs? post your kit contents and links to your recommendations

hmm this didn't work out like I hoped it would. I'm not exactly sure what all those tools are for. What are 5,6,8,9,10 and that whole last kit for? This is the most noob question I will be asking

Item 5 is a cleaning rod. You affix a patch or brush to it and use it to clean the barrel.

Item 6 is a cleaning rod guide that is used to guide the cleaning rod with the patch/brush attached so that you don't get all sorts of solvents into your gun's action.

Item 8 is lube and cleaning solvent you would use to clean your gun. Either one of the two products will do, you don't have to buy both.

Item 9 is a pull through cleaning "string" that you insert from the action of the gun into the barrel and pull through towards the muzzle of the barrel. It's great for quick cleaning your barrel.

Item 10 are small patches of cloth or cotton that you apply solvents and cleaning agents to prior to pushing it through your barrel with your cleaning rod.

The kit Darklyte27 mentioned can replace items number 5 and 10.

That's pretty much all I need to clean an AR. About every month or so I'll reclean just to be sure it is clean (serious OCD when it comes to clean guns), and nothing makes me feel better than having that q-tip come out with clean clear oil.

Clean your AR like you're life depends on it... actually I do that with all my guns.

Oh, forgot the "toothbrush." That's a must have!

A cleaning kit like this one is all you need to do your cleaning. I have a few different cleaning kits, but I always use the one like this one. Oh and don't forget your Q-tips!

I finally took my gun out to shoot today! So I have a couple of questions. Is there a "timeframe" to clean my gun? What if I don't clean it until say the next time I shoot, or if I don't touch my gun at all for a year? I put about 300 rounds through my gun today.

Also where is the best place to pick up a GI cleaning kit and bore snake?

Get one of these, you will never regret it. Bore snakes are okay for the field, IMO, but the Tipton cleaning rod along with the cleaning rod guide are the best way to go for cleaning at home.

And definitely not brass punches.

You want STEEL roll-pin punches and roll-pin holders.
