The edges are slightly rounded so a little grinder or dremel tool to take off the sharp edge./Chris

Just order the Glock armorers tool. Mags can be tricky hard to describe i'd have to show you. There are 3 kinds of people in this world.
The wise, learn from the mistakes of others.
The smart, learn from their own mistakes.
The others, well......they just never learn.

After wrestling with the Glock mags I ended up putting them in the vise to depress the little tabs on each side and then using the Glock tool and a little tack hammer in combination to get the plate sliding off. Then I ask myself if it was necessary in the first place. My answer is usually no. They can be cleaned without disassembly. For shipping etc. the answer is yes. My suggestion is if you're getting yourself some repair kits for your legally owned hi-caps stock up big time.If you can't explain it simply you don't understand it well enough. The Glock tool will theortically work for disassembling the mags, but in reality it takes so much pressure to get the baseplates off that the tool will bend. I use a metal 3/32" punch from the hardware store for the process. My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.Comment

Okay I have to ask, what's the difficulty in using the Glock tool to disassemble the mags? I mean I took the LEO armorers course a *long* time ago, but I still take them apart the way I was taught and it's really pretty easy... why all the gimmicks like the vice and nonsense?/Chris

If you found it easy, you haven't disassembled a lot of Glock mags. The base plates are fit on scary tight, and it is rarely as simple as push in tab in circular hole and the slide baseplate off.Okay I have to ask, what's the difficulty in using the Glock tool to disassemble the mags? I actually had a moment of great stupidity when I tried to use a small metal punch for the process (about half as thick as the hole in the baseplate). I have a counter-edge trick I use for getting the plates off, and while doing with the punch, the punch tip completely snapped off and my momentum caused the jagged tip to drive into my wrist leaving an inch-long gash. While I may not always be the brightest bulb in the chandalier, I'm not a moron either, and any process that requires this much effort is not a good thing.
Heating them with a blow dryer before trying to get them off does help a little, though. My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.Comment

No, I've disassembled, literally hundreds of them; all the same way exact way that I was taught in the Armorer's class: magazine, floorplate up in off hand, insert punch tip through locking tab button with the tip angled towards the front of the mag, between the locking insert plate and the front of the mag body. Lever the floorplate off using the locking plate insert as a fulcrum point. Viola. If you found it easy, you haven't disassembled a lot of Glock mags./Chris

I've done it w/ a punch, however, most punches are not long enough in the small diameter to work well. The armorer's tool is long and give more leverage to pop the floor plate off.

Use a countersink nail...
In my garage; I hammered a countersink nail into an exposed wall stud. It's a long nail, the head barely small enough to fit the Glock magazine baseplate hole.
Then I use a small flathead screwdriver, preferably very small, to get the lip of the baseplate off the catch, same time using the countersink nail... make sure you put this nail where there is a lot of light so you can see.
You have to work the magazine on the nail and small screwdriver simultaneously. Be careful, take your time and watch that spring... it's a doozie!
The way these here are made, it demands that you perform two (2) things at one time... again, key here is take your time and the plate will tell you what it wants you to do. (Sounds strange, but it's true)
I do this so often now that the whole process of magazine plate removal takes me about 15 seconds. And to learn this literally took HOURS!.
