Need to find a heavier rebound spring for K frame S&W revolver

Hi, i'd like to put a heavier rebound spring in my Smith and Wesson K frame but i've not been able to secure one.

I've checked Brownells, MidwayUSA as well as the Wolff springs websites but none heavier than stock are listed.

The OEM rebound spring is 18 pounds i'm told. OAL is approx 1.20", wire diam. .0335" -.034"

The reason for this search derives from having nicely i've improved the pull characteristics of the stock set up by careful polishing..... however i'm so used to shooting a tuned 1911 that i often beat the rebound on the revolver which i find somewhat frustrating.

I'd sure appreciate any leads. thank you.

If there is no stronger spring, maybe try a short spacer of some kind inside the rebound slide to increase the spring preload?
There's not much room to work with so maybe this can't happen.
(Small ball bearing or piece of rod or ?)
You would have to watch out for coil bind but more preload would give a quicker snap back.

Yes. Overtravel stop may help until you find something.

What is the OD of the spring, and is there some tolerance for more or less OD? I have a Wolff master spring kit, I could see about finding one with wire a tad larger

A 15lb reduced power rebound spring measures a couple thousandths under 3/16" outside diameter.
The spring is constrained by outside diameter so I would assume that any weight rebound spring should have the same OD and the inside can vary depending on wire diameter.

                ....very grateful for everyone's help.
this is what i was able to secure as well.
The spring OD is about .185 + or - a few thousandths. The hole in the rebound slide I measured is .196

Ok I will see what I can find in the kit. I would say that the first thing to address the speed of the rebound slide perhaps is not the spring. I have heard of the performance center installing a ball bearing into the rebound slide (where the spring goes), and of other folks who have milled a groove down the sides and bottom of the rebound slide leaving rails which reduce the friction surface.

And speaking of friction - I presume you have polished the slide and the frame where it rides?

As Ojisan mentioned, putting a ball bearing in would also increase the pre-load, perhaps a win-win for you because the ball is also supposed to increase speed and smoothness. But most folks will trim the spring by the same OD as the ball. You would probably have to remove some spring to keep it from going to soild.

I would also worry about how much pressure the rebound spring stud could handle.

Anyhow let me see if there are any candidates in the box...

thank you...appreciate the information and please no pressure but should you happen to find a suitable spring i'd sure appreciate that as well. very happy to cover item cost and shipping . will check Home Depot as well this weekend, perhaps they carry suitable ball bearings?
