    AR Gas Block Removal Question....

Out of curiosity; Do you have to remove your hand guards, or rail system, from an AR upper if you want to change the gas block?

I'm thinking about switching to a flip-down front sight...

I would remove your handguards if you're going to do it. It's somewhat difficult, but far from impossible.

Obviously if you have a free floating rail and wanted to remove it you would need to remove the FSB first, so in that case you don't have to take it off.

You need to pull the gas tube out of the current GB, so yeah, you'll want to remove the handguards or rail.

If you are just replacing the FSB, then NO, you don't have to remove anything else first. Removing the gas tube has nothing to do with it, as it will be removed after the FSB is off the barrel. Of course, if you have regular 2-piece handguards, it will be easier to 'see things' if you remove them first. But as far as 'having to': No. Use the correct punch & a heavy hammer (some Kroil & a Delrin block make life much easier, too!) and you're GTG.

*on some forend designs, you may need to remove just the bottom half/bottom front quarter to access the pins.

Yeah, I just want to switch out the gas block to either a flip-down or a low-profile. I have a Daniel Defense 7.0 and I have access to the pins, so I think I'm good!

          Thanks for your help!!!
