    Muzzle Brake tools

What tools do I need to install a muzzle brake?

I know I'll need a vice but the install guide for the brake also says I need to apply 20-30 ft pounds of torque. What tool(s) do I need for that?

On another note, anyone in the SF area able to install a brake for me and at what cost?

so much depends upon the type of muzzle brake you're installing.

the first muzzle brake i purchased had flats milled into the brake...i think it was a surefire brand if i recall. As such i was able to put an open end wrench (crow foot type) on my torque wrench. i also use a touch of anti seize .

The AR barrel wrench has a notch that fits a lot of muzzle brakes and the wrench itself has a square that fits on a torque wrench

the brake i have now has a collar that you can just hand tighten to index and secure the brake...

this is a video i watched that i found helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRyiMMX-k2g

      Not rocket science.

What kind of tool you'll need depends on the brake. Post a pic, and it will give an idea of what's needed to get hold of it. A pic of the rifle would help as well.

I use a Geissele Reaction Rod to hold the barrel. Some might recommend using a barrel vise. But you'll need something to clamp down and hold the barrel. I believe you can use the flat portions on the brake to tighten it down

My setup is vise, magpul bev block, “armorer’s wrench” with cutout for a2 muzzle device, torque wrench

If it’s a brake you will need to time it (eg make sure the ports are horizontal). I like using shims, but there are other things lie crush washer out there

Where in the Bay Area are you.
