    Barrel lining?

I have an old Rem 552 Speedmaster .22 that needs the barrel relined. Can anyone suggest a good gunsmith who can provide this service in the Lancaster, CA area? I'd also be willing to travel 30 to 40 miles if necessary - say, anywhere in the Tehachapi to Canyon Country area.

It wouldn't be such a big deal but this rifle belonged to my deceased brother and I'd love to get it into good working order again. Thanks in advance!

I do relines. Right now I have tooling for .22LR, 38 Special, and 38-55 Win.
If you could find a barrel for your rifle that would be the least expensive way to go, but a quick search tuned up zip. Redmans wont touch anything but a Win 1890 pattern gun, and besides he is a pain to deal with. Post a clear picture of the breech end of your barrel to see if it is feasible. Some designs are a real problem at the breech end.

I’ve heard of and watched videos of barrel re lining.

What happened to cause the need for a re line?

Is it a rust issue or did he actually shoot out the barrel?

Only 2 guns I have had relined where old 22's that the barrels where shot out. The throat actually. Both had more sentimental value than actual value.

        I have rebarreled other guns.

I don't remember what happened but the rifling is toast. It has a couple of other issues but I can deal with those myself.

Ken, I'll try to get photos. The rifle is currently stored where I don't have easy access to it. As for a new barrel I have looked everywhere I can think of with no luck.

I've got an 1885 low wall in 22 long, that was made in 1886, that I'd love to get a liner for 22lr installed in. It's corroded so badly that the inside is junk, and the gun was rusted, pitted, and poorly refinished at some point in the last hundred and fifteen years, but the original octagon barrel is just too cool to rebarrel, and I'd love to be able to have fun shooting it again.

Can do. .22 shorts and longs usually have 20" twist, and never shoot good when modified to LR.

Usually old guns that have shot corrosive ammunition combined with bad cleaning habits.

Also see a few ringed barrels from being fired with a stuck bullet. Once in a while some "gunsmithing" gone wrong. The majority have pitted, neglected, rusted bores, along with the gun being very sentimental.

Can you reline a 30-30 barrel on an 1893 marlin?

Maybe. What is the barrel diameter, or measurement across the flats if octagon, at the breech and muzzle?
