    Sten kit help

I finally got a Sten kit today and check out the trigger group. I think there could be a problem.

sell it and buy a mk2 kit.
I saw a rare mk2 kit with hebrew markings a long time ago. I wanted to buy it but didn't have the cash.

Looks like the demiller got happy with his power saw. You could weld up the slot that is over-cut down into your trigger group- just hope none of the internals were severed in the cut.

Just cosmetic, it looks fine to me. I just laid down a bead on mine and buffed it down and it looked fine.

So, how are you going to build it? Are you going to buy a SA bolt or try to make one? Inquiring minds want to know!

Well I've been searching for some semi auto sten build tutorials but can't find a single one.

Depending on how much you want to spend I could walk you through the process if you use a semi auto bolt/tube. If you have access to cutting tools, welder, grinders etc... you could have a sten done in a day.

                JustinLB,

I've got a couple of old MKIII kits too. I paid $25 each on ebay for mine!!!!!! That was a few years ago though. If you ever want to do a mini sten build party, I'd be interested in attending or hosting one this summer.

My kits were like that to. I tig welded them up, it was no big deal. I can fix yours for you, if you pay the shipping both ways. No charge for fixing it as long as you cover the shipping. I got my kits from copes distribution. All of their kits are cut like that.

That is very gracious to offer hawk but I have access to all kinds of welders.

Yeah I paid $140 for the kit I posted and I got another mark III kit with 2 10rd mags for $150.

I'm most likely gonna go with indianapolis ordnance semi auto kit and reduced diameter tube.
I like the SLS (sten long shroud) receivers too but I think you have to use SAS parts. SLS tube

I have a Sten kit from ten years ago but never built it. What can I legally build in CA with it? Any websites you can point me to?

I really like their bolt design but there are some drawbacks to their bolts I see.
                            1) the cocking handle that comes with their kit is way too short and it's hard to get decent leverage on it to cock the bolt back.
                            2) the AR-15 firing pin and spring that comes with the bolt wouldn't puncture a primer becuase the spring was too stiff.
                            3) the hammer tends to wobble its way to the bolt (or at least not stay straight) when you drop the sear so much of the time it loses it's inertia when it chips the back end of the bolt because of its design.

All 3 problems can be addressed but there is a bit of trial and error guess work. Even though there are these problems with the bolt I still think indy ord. has one of the best kits out there.

Once again, if you need any help shoot me a PM.

Justin, I and a couple others from the previous Inland Empire AK BPs, are going to do a STEN BP.

I'm going with an I.O. reduced diameter tube & semi-bolt.

I just need to get a magwell tab forming die (for the Mk III) made before we start finishing the <80% semi tubes. I want to build mine as close to the original as possible. Magwell spot welded to the mag tabs on the tube receiver. I just need to hook up with someone with a mill to make the tooling.
