    Missing Barrel Index Pin

    Hello calgunners:

I purchased a AR-9 build kit from Davidson Defense in 2017 and just finished assembling it last month. I noticed that the barrel doesn't have the index pin but I thought it would matter as they sent me the complete kit. But when I took it for test fire after about 50 rounds the barrel was turning. I sent email for replacement but it is out of warranty, even through Davidson Defense should not send it to their customers at first place. So be careful and think twice when you buy anything from Davidson Defense if you have to.

Anyway just wondering how I can fix that.

    Thanks in advance.

I suggest you post this in the centerfire rifles section to get more of the right people looking.

    Good luck.

I damaged a Larue Stealth upper receiver a couple years ago by turning on a muzzle device. The barrel nut wasn't fully tightened and the indexing pin ripped the slot on the receiver and cracked the front take down pin stub. Ordered a replacement pin from White Oak Armament. Expensive lesson.

if you can take it down you can probably file a chunk of nail the right size then reassemble

put the nail in a drill press and let it spin as you file it to proper diameter then hacksaw it to proper length and put a drop of super glue on it

sure anything or nothing the nut holds the pin in place i just know i would screw up the diameter make it too small and it would fall off as i reinstall it

I have seen 9mm AR barrels intentionally without an index pin, the barrels don't have a directional feed ramp or gas port, so it doesn't need to be indexed.

The friction from the barrel nut keeps the barrel "indexed" in case you have a muzzle device that needs indexing.

Local industrial supply will have lots of hardened pins of different sizes. Do it right or don't do it.

I see. I am going to use barrel nut's pressure to keep it in place.

Thanks. I will try that and keep you all posted.

I will make sure barrel nut to hold the barrel in place. I will keep you all posted.
