    Gas key staking

Does any one have a gas key staker like the MOACKS or pocket MOACKS tool, I can rent from them. I dont want to do the chisel and hammer method. I jacked up my gas key last time trying it that way, hit it a little to hard and didnt grind the chisel enough and it cut down to the bolt insted of staking it. Randal (AR15BARRELS) if you see this Do you do carrier key staking? I know you are busy so I didnt want to send you a PM.

Thank you for any help guys

You don't need a special tool to stake a carrier key. All you need is a center punch and a hammer. Stake the carrier key just outside the hole. Do it in three places and make sure you upset the metal enough so the screws do not back out. For a stronger hold, cut 2-3 small notches in the head of the screw and stake the the carrier key were the notches are so that the metal from the carrier key fills the notches stopping the screw from backing out. Attached is a quick drawing of what I am talking about.

No, not the only "real" way to do it. Save your money for ammo instead of buying a special tool. I have been using my method of staking for over 8 years in the military. Never had a problem with it.

Your 'credentials' are very impressive. And you are entitled to your opinion, as am I. I have been using the same tool mentioned above for many years, too. It's not only much easier to use, but it creates a much more 'uniform' stake (ala Colt factory, but better); you have ZERO margin for error (unlike slamming a hammer into the BC if it slips off the punch); you can scrape all the carbon not only from inside the carrier, but also from the back of the bolt tail & firing pin; you can *last but not least* remove the most stubborn/fouled/'baked-in' gas tube from the FSB. And on newer versions, I believe you can counter-stake the screws. So, in essence, what we have here is actually 5(6) tools-in-one. I think that the people who say "save your money for ammo" on this one, either a) want one but somehow can't get one (for whatever reason) or b) don't have any prior experience 'hands on' with one.
