putting a sight on a barrel

So I have a shotgun barrel and a sight that needs to go on it.

I am aware that it needs to be soldered on, but looks like some companies do it differently than others.

So question is how do I get the sight nice and pretty like the bottom barrel? Do I have to solder it on and then refinish the entire barrel? Do I get the barrel completely stripped of the finish then solder it on and then refinish it? (I won't be doing it myself, but I am still looking for a gunsmith to do i)

The barrel and the sight base need to be stripped to be soldered.
The difference between the two pictures is the amount of solder cleanup.
The bottom one does not have any exposed solder around the sight while the top one has exposed solder.
Solder is normally flowed out from under the sight to be sure that you have full flow.
The excess solder can be sandblasted away before final polishing and finishing.
The whole barrel gets finished after soldering.

The Scattergun Technology kit front sight is attached with high strength epoxy, mine hasn't budged yet after 8 years. You have to just prep the area under where the sight goes on.

If you are talking about an 870, the scattergun sight gets epoxied over the existing factory soldered sight base.

The sight base is raw steel with no finish on it.
