I have one of those too.
It's a tough fix due to the anodizing.
If you cut throuh the anodizing, you lose the surface hardness that the anodizing gives you.
Best bet is to either have olympic re-manufacture you a new lower with the same serial number or squeeze your mags in a vise to make them fit better.

I fitted pmags for a tight olympic magwell and all that was required was to remove the molding flash.
Also, standard metal magazines tend to vary in dimension.
If you had 20 mags and checked them all in a tight magwell, you would find a few that fit fine.

^^+100%. If I were you, I would bust out the calipers & get readings on the inside dimensions of the magwell and then measure & add up outside dimensions of the mags you own. Then, find the *average dimensions* of your mags & subtract the measurement of the lower magwell. That # will be what I would start with when 'shrinking' your first magazine. Just my .02.

On this topic.. any good idea of determining where on a pMag to sand down for a tight lower fit to determine where in the magwell the issue is? Maybe put some oil in the magwell and see where on the pMag is drags given the oily marks left behind?

On the ones that I did, it was the flashing on the front, where the plastic enters the mold.
That area was just a bit taller than the surrounding flat area on the magazine.

I own a registered Olympic Arms lower (purchased '99) that has a tight magazine well and would like it opened up a bit. Any of you folks know of any good SoCal 'smiths?

I also have an Oly Arms that is a bit tight with certain mags. Thermolds are tight and a few of my USGI 30 rounders were also a little tight. I squeezed the USGI mags with a vise right where they were sticking. My USGI 20 rounders work fine and are the ones that I use the most.

take off your trigger guard.
i came across a lower that had the same problem as yours.
when i removed the trigger guard it was a little to far foward and the front of the trigger guard was in the mag well area
the backs of the mags would rub on the trigger guard.
the easy fix was to sand down the front of the trigger guard in the mag well area till the mags dropped free then a bit of touch up paint.

I have seen and fixed that too.
You can actually look through the magwell with the upper removed and see if the triggerguard protrudes into the magwell or not.

Aren't emags supposed to be slimmer? Maybe you can try an emag rebuild

Personally I"d probably consider seeing if I could repair the out of spec area of the mag-well with a file.

While I wouldn't remove the anodizing in a high friction or high pressure area (think feed ramps on a 1911 LW Commander or FCG pin holes on an AR lower, there is so little stress on a mag well I'd file it and put some aluma-black on it and not lose any sleep. I consider it somewhat like an aircraft propeller which is also usually made of aluminum and they are routinely filed to remove minor nicks.

Buy pmags, they last forever and a day are super durable and are 15 each - you could rebuild your entire collection for 300 then sell all the other parts for half that much back.
