    Getting started...a good project?

I would like to get started doing some light smithing, and am looking for recommendations for a first project. Maybe a 1911-style .22LR?

I have a lathe, mill, press, etc., and all the usual well-equipped home workshop tools...and the ability to use them.

    Suggestions?

1911's are my favorite. Find you an old beat up government model beaver tail it, ad mag well, Wilson Combat makes great trigger parts. Ski is the limit. Then when your all done Parkerize it.
