Cleaning Nickel

What is the safest way to remove carbon powder Burns from a nickel finish? I know ammonia will destroy the finish. However I have found CLP to do nothing as far as removing the carbon goes. I have been reluctant to use Hoppes.

Simichrome is a good metal polish that won't leave scratches.
I've used it on plastics with good results.

I've heard this works well for Nickel finishes but haven't tried it yet.

Have you tried the various carbon removers that are out there? Boretech, KG, and a bunch of others available. Auto stores have various solvents to break down carbon as well. You would have to research the safe on nickel part.

That said, a friend of mine tried everything to remove some carbon spots from his S&W 929; eventually he decided to call them "features".

I have a nickel finished Smith & Wesson revolver, and I use Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish. You can find it at any auto parts store or Walmart.
