    Pre-fit barrels

I saw this great video today showing how loose some pre-fit barrels can be.

This is why its best to have a gunsmith cut the threads to fit your specific action when you rebarrel.

I was just about to send you a text message asking you about the Proof prefit barrels for Tikka. I had some reservations about the idea. This is a closed FB group, so can you give a summary of findings?

This is why QA is important.
The machinist who threaded that barrel didn't want to tell anyone, for probably a variety of reasons and it made it through.

Not all CZ have the same barrel tenon diameter and pitch. I'd like to believe he has a barrel for a smaller tenoned action. but it could be that it was in fact crap workmanship

Is it just me or does it look like the receiver threads were re-cut?

The guy that posted the video stated that he removed the factory CZ barrel and used a wire brush to clean the threads.
He stated that no machining to the reciever was done.
Action is a CZ550 and the barrel was ordered for a CZ550.

I thought you guys are experts?

I guess you have never heard the term "free floated receiver"?

That can't be the right barrel, maybe labeled wrong? That isn't even close. QC person must have been

but did he receive a barrel cut for a CZ550? I'd be measuring and complaining for sure. but there again I don't order prefits unless the barrel maker supplies them.

There's a 3mm difference between a CZ 550 and a 527 .5 mm difference on the pitch. so that would be enough to account for the slop.

That, is terrifying. I wish I had those parts in hand to inspect them. I can't imagine it being the receiver. From my personal experience I normally find the receiver gets the blame, wrongfully.

3mm is .118"............for the metric and decimal challenged. That's damn near 1/8 inch.

and with as much slop that thing had it wouldn't surprise me that it's the wrong barrel shank
