    Sig P-232 Problem takedown lever

Take down lever moves from horizontal position to vertical when shooting, I called sig and they where no help. Rep. told me they had no parts for p-232 . I believe the thumb tab could be staked and soldered to the shaft so it would not slip . I need a good smith located someplace in the east bay area that has some Sig savvy. Anyone out in gun land got a name ?

Spring and plunger above take down lever could be worn or broken. Replace.

If the shaft is turning, first clean it and especially the detent hole. If it gets jammed with debris it can prevent the lever from going completely horizontal and also prone to go vertical.
If that doesn't help replace the slide stop spring - IIRC it is what puts tension on the take down lever. It is a simple coil spring.

But I have also heard the levers can spin on the shaft, and that is a different (and fairly common) problem. Is that the problem you are having?

Yes lever spins on shaft and all internal parts hold position. I bought it new in 2012 and like a fool put it away without test firing it, ran 20 rounds through it the other day and TDL went completely vertical. I called Sig and was told by rep. to check out some web sights and maybe find a part. No luck Thanks SkyHawk

Yeah I have heard that is a problem. Are you even able to take it down now? If so I would get that lever out then find someone who can solder / braze / weld it together.

I also wonder if red loctite might do the job? Nice thing is you could wick that in and maybe get the lever to turn after setting up for a few days, if you can't get it out now.

          Is it stainless or blued?

A quick search shows these are hard to find if not impossible, and this was a common problem.

Here is another Calgunner with experience:

Fix is to have the two lever pieces welded together so they won't separate.

My brother's P232 take down lever broke on the first trip to the range and he had to send it to Sig for repair. They welded it for him but it was not done correctly and it broke again.

He's going to take it to a local gunsmith he uses to do his trigger work so it can get done properly.

Despite these problems, he loves the gun. Shoots well and looks great. It just a little annoying that Sig is shipping a product with a known issue rather than redesigning the part and offering a recall.

Thanks for the Calgunner advice, now to find a gunsmith that can weld the stainless part together.

i just checked on line at eBay, numeric, top gun, jack first to no avail.
I would imagine one of the forum's awesome gunsmiths might be happy to help but it not i have heard good things about a place called "micro precision welding", you might also want to run it by Bruce Gray.

I have seen his excellent work from a top notch gunsmith that uses him.
