Didn't know what they were called either.

So is a new ring being soldered?
I dont mean to high jack but what about mig or tig weldingthe ring to the barrel?
I have a 550 that I picked up at a auction only to find out the old solder gave up the ghost

I would not trust welding a lug to a shotgun barrel as the barrel wall is very thin and you will get the metal so hot that the interior finish of the barrel would be damaged.
Soldering is MUCH safer.
