    Adding Red Dot to 1911?

    Hi everyone who views this.
I just recently came upon an MC Operator and I love shooting it. I also have a Vortex Venom just sitting in the safe. Is there a mount that will fit on the MC Operator without doing any milling?

IIRC, EGW makes mounts that replace the rear sight.

I just saw some of the few mounts. Would it be the gi mount for it? Or that Novak one they have?

I think the MC Operator is Novak cut.

I tried that mount, but did not like it since the RDS was very high and the offset from the barrel bore meant Kentucky elevation at various distances. I finally had this done by Parker Mountain Machining.

What did PMM charge for a 1911? How much was refinish if you got that?

Jarod charged me $380 for the cut which included the RMR mount with integrated tritium high suppressor sights and 1911 adapter plate. I requested bare metal, but he was gracious and threw in a bluing at no cost. You can purchase a discounted RMR from him also. It took about 5 weeks.

Yeah I saw a video on youtube with the egw mount, and it did look high. But I think that the venom is slightly longer than your rmr. The front peeks over the ejection port when placed infront of the irons.

Rear is Novak. Front sight is proprietary. I also have a MC operator and Colt Rail Gun. Both will get RMR cuts when I can afford it.

                      Adding Vortex Venom to 1911

                      Hi again everyone.
I'm trying to add a Vortex Venom to my recently acquired MC Operator. I saw the Kimber Aegis and am looking for that type of setup with the back up irons right behind the rds.
Does anyone know where I can find a mount exactly like that? I've searched far and wife and cannot find anything like that for a Venom.
Any answers are appreciated. Thanks CG!

Call Kimber and ask what mount they’re using. I know trijicon makes a mount for the RMR but the vortex uses a different pattern. Or get ahold of a gunsmithing and see what kind of custom mounting options can be done. When I started looking into an optic for my 1911, I ended up just going with trijicon to keep it simple.

Maybe you can send your slide to Kimber custom Shop and have them do the mount for you?

You can get the mounting plates from EuroOptic, but finding someone who can mill a slide to for those is the trick. I'm not sure if Kimber's released the specs for any shop to follow.

Hmm, it probably has to do with that recall Kimber had because their first run of plates lacked any kind of recoil lug in the design. You might have to wait until they produce more of the updated version.
