    Recoil Pad Grinding

Does anyone know of any shops that do grind-to-fit recoil pads? Called 2-3 local gun smiths and only one of them does it, but they want $65 and a week to do it. Not sure what the going rate is for this service, but I want to be able to shop around. Located in Corona.

Don't know what you want to put the recoil pad on but Bob Day (http://americhoke.com/) does good work.

I tried grinding a limbsaver stock for one of my rifles years ago. It took me all day to get it right. Grind and check, grind and check. If you grind to much your SOL. Never again. For my time and $ a qualified smith is the way to go for $65.

Still don't take the place of skill and experience.
I would rather sort spiders from porcupines than fit pads.

OP, $65 is CHEEP to have it done right or at least look presentable. Either one has a few thousand tied up in all the proper wheels, motors, and arbors to do it good and quick, or take all friggin day to lope along on one machine, changing abrasives, etc.

The jig and belt sander will cost more than 65. Plus good belt cost. Pay 65 to have it done right.

                          Yep.
There is that certain grabbiness to Limbsavers that's not like most other pads.

You're right. I was trying to find somewhere locally to do it quickly, but I realize that since he's only 70-80 miles out, it would only take a day each way.

Bolsa Gunsmithing in Westminster does them too. Not an endorsement, just information. I haven't had issues with them as some others have reported here.
