    Winchester 94 caliber conversion

Looking for some knowledge before I go buy a bunch of parts.

I have a stripped Model 94 Winchester receiver made in 1970 and it probably started life as a 30-30. It's a complete turd, pitted and ugly but solid. My idea is to see if I could turn this into a legally configure 357 mares leg instead of going back to a 30-30. I already have a 32 Special and I don't need to have a 30-30 in my life. Ya can't tell the bullets apart from one another unless you look at the head stamps.

Can anyone tell me if the internal parts from a post 64 angle eject in 357 will fit into my receiver? I see parts kits for these pop up from time to time but I would hate to blow the cash on something that won't work.

I know this isn't plug and play like an AR and I am prepared for that. I've brought several others back from the dead. The worse case scenario would be to turn it into a 32 Special but that wouldn't be as fun and finding a parts kit for that isn't going to be easy.

Once a rifle, always a rifle.
Mare's legs usually have 12" barrels.
If you shorten the barrel below 16" or the overall length below 26", you have made an SBR.

Make a 25-35 or a 219 zipper out of it or if you want something really different, do a 35-30/30.

Yeah, not going to make it and SBR, don't need that headache either. I was planning to stay within the legal requirements for a rifle.

Put a 38-55 barrel on it. You will not mistake it for a 30WCF.

It needs to keep a shoulder stock then because a title 1 firearm made from a rifle is considered an SBR in CA even with a 16" barrel if it's under 26" OAL BECAUSE it was created FROM a rifle.

So keep it over 16" barrel AND 26" OAL and you are good as a title 1 firearm.

The Mare's leg is out but the 7-30 Waters will feed perfectly

You will need a slew of parts to convert to .357. Guides, bolt, link, finger lever just to name the major ones. The most important part is the link assy. and the ones for .357 are long gone. Worn/broken .357 links can be welded up to bring them back into service, but at substantial cost.

I think the easiest quickest solution, since you brought other "rifles back from the dead" ( which means you won't have to pay gunsmith rates for the skill$ to make it happen) would be to refinish and get it operating as it should the rifle you already have as best you can and then sell it or possibly trade It for a lever action in 357 Magnum.

                Just my two cents.

I have a stripped receiver now so no matter what, I will need everything either way. Will the internals from a angle eject rifle work in my receiver. Parts kits for those come up from time to time.

I don't know for sure, but I doubt it. The bolt definitely will not work.
