    Makarov help

A while ago I had a problem with my Mak, squib killed my barrel. I have since replaced the barrel but on reassembly I find I cannot get the trigger guard pin to go in. I can't find a drift pin that works and due to the spring compression required I cannot just fit it by hand. So I am putting myself at the hand of the all knowing CalGunners, any ideas or tips?

Call them on the phone to see if they have a free shipping deal going on. If they do, post it up because I need a part

I have the pin, I just can't get it to go into the hole with the trigger guard assembly in place, I can't find a drift pin of the exact size to fit it and the pin itself is dumbell shaped and that doesn't help either.

        OOOOOH, gotcha.

I would take it to a smith, they will probably do it for free and in about 5 minutes.

"I can't find a drift pin of the exact size to fit it".
Do you have a set of drill bits? The different diameter shanks are great for this kind of stuff. it's a good use for bent and broken bits, too.

Order yourself a nice number size drill set, 1 - 60, as this will equip you with
what amounts to as complete a set as possible, of pins to use as slave / drifts
            to fit small pin holes.

Cheap drill bit set - works great for checking hole sizes and using as precision drift pins. Might not want to use them as drills, though...

Alternately, go to ebay and search on pin gage or pin gauge - lots of cheap Chinese pin gauge sets. They're actually very precise, and quite a bargain compared to the old-school machinists sets.

Been there done that, with a drill bit I can get the pin almost in.

I tried to take some pics but my little casual camera just can't take close up pics. I get the pin (dumbell shaped) in with one end just not quite getting into the hole on the receiver. Since the trigger guard has a powerful spring pushing against the swivel point of the guard it takes a lot of pressure to align it by hand and when I try with a drill bit (3/16 being the best match) it still pops the bit out and misaligns preventing the pin from continuing.

I tell ya it is about to drive me crazy.

Anyone recommend a smith in Sac area who will be reasonable about this?
