Gunsmith in SoCal for M1A work

    Want to have some work done on a soon to be mine SA M1A loaded. Work to be completed;

    trigger job
    bed action
    NM Op Rod assembly
    NM Piston

Can anyone suggest a smith in socal? If the best smiths are elsewhere I wouldnt mind shipping but all of the above work isnt too complex.

    Thanks.

Check this link for gunsmiths that work on the m14

Just so someone doesn't charge you for work that doesn't exist.

On an M14/M1a there is not a NM oprod just a spring guide that drops in. Also there is not really a NM piston either. There was a spec for a groved NM piston but it was dropped as it did not show any tangible results.

You really need to send it to someone who specializes in the M14/M1A,
especially if you are doing bedding work. John Capalbo in Garden Grove
used to do M1A work and he is good, but I don't know if he is still in
business. I would be leery of another certain so called gunsmith in the San Fernando Valley(not Hoag) Pete

I think I know who you're referring to, w/o naming names what was your experience with him and with what kind of gun ?
I was actually considering taking an M1A and 1911 for slight adjustments myself and would appreciate hearing your feedback. Feel free to pm if you'd prefer to. OP sorry for the temporary highjack, good gunsmiths really are a rare breed these days, more's the pity.

I dont quite understand the point your trying to make. Using a boyds stock = poor gunsmithing? Or is it poor gunsmithing because springfield dosent make their own wood stocks?

                          +1 for Luhmann.

Opinionated, but he'll get it done right and fast (and if he's too busy to get to it, he simply won't accept the job).

+1 on Tom Luhmann, there was rumors of him being retired but I think they are greatly exaggerated.
