    AK47 AK74 question.

Simple Question as I have weal Google Fu.

Does the AK47 and the AK74 use the same lower receiver? Asides from the bolt and barrel what parts are firearm specific?

    Not the same.

You may open up the smaller Magwell of the AK74 but the mag well dimples may interfere with an AK47 magazine. And in reverse, the skinnier AK74 mag will wobble more in an AK47 receiver.

Thanks so much. Found a 74 parts kit I can't pass up. Now to find a receiver.

Be careful not to trim the ejector the way you would with the typical AK-47 ejector rail you get with a flat. I learned that the hard way when using an AK Builder AK-74 flat and rails. Of course, I didn't check anything until AFTER I heat treated the ejector and got everything assembled. Luckily I was able to salvage the rail with some welding.

Home build's not worth the bending flats and having to serialize. I plan on buying a finished receiver. Moving all the parts that are compliant to the new one. I will of course go slow and careful. Got a friend who know the ins and outs but will wait to pester him

                  DO IT!!

You can even make a AK-74 under folder if you want!

                  Or standard.

                  Poke'm with a stick!

I did an underfolder, but I had to cut the holes for the stock by hand.

So did I. It really wasn't a big deal. The rear trunnion is a good guide. Just drilled the receiver holes close to the trunnion when it was in held in place temporarily, then used a Dremel to finish to the final sizes.

I used a Polish under folder stock and parts.
