I have used sand and it WILL wipe out most markings but will also blend rust pits.

But I think a better method is to glass bead but both will work well if you are parkerizing.

BUT do not touch the metal with you hands use a clean tissue other wise
the park will not be even.

Aluminium oxide or glass bead?

I do sandblasting and glassbead blasting as well as parkerizing.
I blast with aluminum oxide sand before I parkerize.

I had Randall recently parkerize a XP-100 action, beautiful job!

He will be doing a Mod 70 when my reamer shows up, will also be doing a Whichita action at the same time.
