    Bolt Carrier work

Does anyone know of someone who could drill and thread a side charging handle on an existing Bolt Carrier? I already have a nice carrier and would like to avoid the $200+ cost of another one...

    Buy another carrier.
    Yours is already heat treated.
It is possible. But not cheap if someone will do it.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

Okay thanks... I was thinking that would be the case... So one other dumb question... I already have the bolt needed for my 6.5 Grendel so I am looking at the Young MFG National Match Right Side Charge Bolt Carrier in the stripped format (to save the cost of a bolt I don't need). Even though I will be running this as a manual charging model (no gas tube/block) I will still need to add the Gass Tube part on the top of the carrier for it to still work properly in the upper, correct?

Yes. It will hold the cam pin in place. Order the bolts.also.
Sometimes the bolts at the hardware store has a bigger head.

The gas key is not needed to hold the cam pin.
The firing pin holds the cam pin in place.

The gas key is needed to keep the carrier from rotating in the reciever though.
A 9mm key could probably be used when no gas tube provision is required.
The key is also used by the charging handle to move the bolt to the rear, but that would not apply on a side charging bolt.

Consider the Gibbz upper. It uses the standard bolt carrier.

I have had good luck with Bear Creek Arsenal carriers:
