Stripped set screw (cz adj sear)

I bought a gun with what was describe to me as a "non-functioning safety" to find that the adjustable sear's set screw was stripped to hell. I have an extra set screw but the screw appears to be made of very very weak metal. The loctite used is stronger than the material of the screw. I got a pair of pliers on the screw and it deformed before turning.

What are my options here? for reference, the allen key is 0.035". I was thinking it's possible to drill through the center, but I wouldn't be able to clean out the remains of the screw with the loctite in place.

Heat can help with loctite. Set screws are generally hardened and difficult to drill.

Loctite softens its hold as temperature rises. It varies by the type of Loctite, but a hair dryer might very well solve your problem. Heat it up a bunch, then try the pliers again. A couple hundred degrees will probably be sufficient.

If you end up having to drill it out, that's a whole nother can of worms. Center the drill, lubricate a lot, don't break the drill, and keep going bigger until you are just touching the threads. Then get out your dental pick and go to work digging out the remains of the screw.

In the worst-case-scenario, a new sear can't be all that expensive.

I tried with a heat gun on high for 5 minutes with pliers and unfortunately couldn't get a good grip on the screw. It's not an expensive part at all, it's just a waste to replace an otherwise functioning part. It's also kind of a two-fold fudge because the set screw was made weak by design and the installer had a brain fart moment setting the screw lol

CZ sear is $18 at CGW, I would just buy a new one...

Tig weld extra material to it to grab or toss it in the trash and buy a new one.

                Heat to kill the Loctite.
Reverse drill bit to pull the set screw out.
                Easy peasy.

I was thinking that, could I use a regular drill bit from the reverse end and push it out?

That would work as well, but still use the heat.

The CGW directions call for using red (271) loctite on this little screw. Use lots of heat!

How much is your time worth? Sounds to me like you’ve probably already spent an hour or so on it. That hour cost you more than a new adjustable sear from CGW. Bite the bullet and spend the $50

Time only costs money if you would OTHERWISE have been getting paid for that time.
If you do it on your "free" time, it did not cost anything.
