It's a pretty easy job but $55 sounds very reasonable when you figure it probably takes an hour of shop time to take apart and put back together.

As others have stated I would have the shop put it back together. Shoot it and let the parts hug each other for awhile. Then strip it if you desire. You tube has tons of information on putting it back together.

When I first stripped a 1911 we didn't have internet, cell phones & etc. Putting a 1911 back together was an adventure!

I'd pay the $55 just to make sure it fits back together well. New models can be very tight fitting.

Without knowing your laws, it would seem to me that if you send a Firearm to an FFL and he disassembles and re-assembles the same firearm that would be part of his license as a FFL.????

Techplate is an aerospace qualified plater. Avoid "Chrome" shops.

Black Chrome would be appealing

A Specialzed Grip Screw Bushing Bit would be handy to avoid buggering the bushings - I made my own from a correctly fitting bit and a bit of brass tubing

The tip of a round needle file could be used to put a small channel in the slide stop to help with assembly/disassembly

Just had one of my 1911 hard chromed (brushed flats, matte rounds) and everything went back smoothly. No issues and no gunsmith needed to refit parts.

OP, who's doing your hard chrome and how much? Also if you can build an AR15 build, you'll be fine with assembly of a 1911.

Chrome should not significantly effect fit. Learn to do it yourself IMHO.

That's where I had mine done as well but I sent them a bare frame and slide. Didn't want to pay to have it disassembled/reassembled. Took around a month from the time they received it to the time I got it back.

Just watch some youtube videos and do it, it takes a screwdriver and a pin punch. Getting it apart is easy, putting it back together the first time not so much.
