    Barrel pin galling

My barrel pin galled on the way out- should I replace it or clean it up a little and reuse it?

Just reuse it. Mine galled also but i just took some fine grit sandpaper and cleaned it up. Went in like a hot knife through butter (after freezing the pin and heating up the trunnion).

Depends on how bad it is and what type of gun we're talking about. If it is scuffed then it isn't really a problem on most guns. If it is galled then it may warrant replacing it so your barrel doesn't back out a few thousandths as the roughness on the pin (and corresponding roughness in the hole) compress down.

A new pin will cost you $6 plus shipping.

The pin and barrel galled a bit on my first romanian. No big deal. Unless it's really bad(a majority of the surface area). I'd say take down any high spots with a file, polish it up with some emery cloth and stuff it back in there. just my 2 cents.

Remember when you order or make a new pin; to measure old pin. They vary. A 6.5 to 7mm brill bit can mak a new pin. Measure old pinn at several locations and spin it to 4 to 6 point where mearsured.

I would clean and use old pinn. Always use anti sieze in the little packettes they sell at Auto Parts Stores.
