    Para Problem

I'm going to send my P189 (9mm/1911) Para back for a checkup. It's new, but sick. Just curious if anyone has a clue as to the problems.

1- Have 4 new 10 round magazines. All go to slidelock after the 9th round.

2- After cocking the hammer, you pull the slide back, just as the slide comes forward there is a hitch/bump/stickiness. No burrs or obvious fault in the grooves of the slide/frame. A few times the recoil has obviously hesitated. I have about 400 rounds thru it. Accuracy is ok. My other two Paras are smooth forward & backwards.

This pistol has a match barrel. I'm wondering if it is not locking/unlocking properly. Comments? Wisdom?
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Tis better to have Trolled & lost, Than to never have Trolled, at all.

    1. The slide latch is a cast, or MIM part- and tehre will be an apparent burr, or mold line arounf the edge of the slide stop. This burr kinda pushes up on the slide stop- or at least prevents the plunger from retaining it when the gun is rocking from recoil. This can be fixed in 5 minutes with a 1/16" diamond grinding ball- involves making a slight dent at the top and bottom of the plunger's travel, so there is a VERY slight "click" in the stop when moved up/down.
    2. The rubbing is the sear spring bumping the disconnector. This can be remedied easily, in about 8 minutes by polishing a little chamfer on the face of the "middle finger" of the sear spring to help it stay on top pf the disconnector.

Save yourself the shipping cost- these can be done by even an mateur gunsmith. Should cost no more than $30-$40.

Comments? A couple. Wisdom? We do our best but it's not easy...
      1. Could be the step on the follower that pushes up the slide lock is too high. I have this situation on one 10 round Para .45 mag I own ( I have lots of old Hi-caps, the followers are different). Or, possibly the nose of the bullet type you are using is bumping the slide catch up due to position of last rounds in mag being different or? ...does it do this with all ammo types and bullet shapes?
      2. Disconnector too high, not rounded profile, spring tension too high if at rear of slide travel: barrel locking logs fitting issue possible if closer to going into battery. Lugs and recesses in slide and on barrel clean and lubed? Firing pin stop is well matched to rear of slide so it does not snag on the hammer?

In the past, I've seen more than a couple of paras with similar issues- but, it occurs to me now, that yet another possibility is this...

Bottom lugs/link are too tall, As the slide and barrel come forward, excessive pressure against bottom lugs, casued by excessive resistance from top lugs bearing on top of barrel's chamber area... bottom lugs/link are "rolling" the slide stop into an upward position. This will also manifest as resistance on the return stroke.

With slide back, slowly let it forward while pulling out on the muzzle. Then, let slide slowly forward while pushing down on chamber area with finger. This may diagnose the issue.

I replaced the slide catch on mine.
